India complete 5-0 whitewash

India completed a humiliating 5-0 series win against Sri Lanka after winning the final ODI by 6 wickets at the R. Premadasa stadium yesterday.  This was the first time Sri Lanka had ever suffered a whitewash in a home series.  Batting first, the hosts could only muster 238 in 49.4 overs. India made the winning runs in 46.3 overs thanks to another century by captain Virat Kohli. Kohli scored his 30th ODI century to remain unbeaten on 110.

Kohli ‘s innings brought him past 1,000 ODI runs for 2017 and is now level with Ricky Ponting on second place among ODI centurions.

Earlier in the day Buwanesh Kumar took 5 wickets to restrict Sri Lanka to 238 despite a century stand between Lahiru Thirimanne and Angelo Mathews. Thirimanne made 67 off 102 deliveries before being bowled by Buwanesh Kumar. Former skipper Mathews made 55 in 98 deliveries which included 3 boundaries.
